Ambassador Bridge
Yesterday I did a 3 mile run, and while running I was thinking about all the reasons that I run. Some of the obvious reasons are 1) To stay healthy, 2) to decrease the size of my ghetto booty, and 3) to relieve stress and promote an overall sense of well being. But the number one reason I run is because I want to be around in 60 years to play with my grandchildren. Seriously, I want to be a healthy parent and grand parent. It’s the number one thing I think of when I work out. I don’t have kids yet, so I figure it’s even more important to keep myself in shape because who knows how long it will be before I meet my grand-kids.
The marathon is one week from today. Rachel, Trevor, Jacque and I, drove part of the marathon route in downtown Detroit today. The ambassador bridge looked awesome, and steep! Running over it is going to be very scary for me, since I am a little afraid of heights. We hit the bridge at mile 2 or 3, so the beginning of the race is going to be exciting. The run through Windsor should be fun because it runs along the water. We come back through the tunnel, which is supposed to be hot and full of exhaust fumes. Great. We run through Mexican town, Indian Village, and some historic home areas. We hit Belle Isle around mile 20. We drove a little of the island today, and it looks like that will be a beautiful part of the race. Hopefully beautiful enough to keep our spirits up since we will be breaking the 20 mile mark there, and we have never ventured into that territory before. We have gone 20 miles before and felt pretty good after, but adding 6 more miles will be a challenge.
One week from today I will have my feet up on my couch, drinking tea, and reminiscing over my first marathon!!
